AOC Archaeology Group documents residual features in an archaeological watching brief prior to development, implying limited historical significance.
In 2006, AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned to undertake an archaeological watching brief at Castle Road, Sandal, Wakefield, prior to residential development in the form of a block of flats. The site consisted of the truncated remains of a house within a large garden enclosed by a stone wall except on the northeast side where a modern house had been constructed and a hedge planted. No below ground archaeological features were encountered during the watching brief. However, the watching brief has sought to document residual features from the demolished end of the sites extant house. No finds other than unstratified 20th century material from the topsoil were encountered during the watching brief.
