Hydrogen production from lignin dissolved in was observed at high faradaic efficiencies for experiments conducted at constant electrode potentials using Pt mesh electrodes. The rates of reaction were found to increase with temperature and applied electrode potential. An activation energy of 7.6 Kcal/mol for the process is estimated. The influence of the amount of lignin dissolved in the electrolyte on the anodic current is also determined. Cyclic voltammetry performed on lignin solutions resulted in identification of one anodic and two cathodic peaks.
