Phase 2 evaluates past quarrying activities in Dove Holes, suggesting further exploration is needed.
Phase 2 of archaeological investigations of land at Halsteads in Dove Holes, near the Bull Ring, Derbyshire comprised measured and geophysical surveys. The measured earthwork survey revealed several pits and mounds indicating small-scale surface quarrying activity had taken place in the past. This activity is thought to have occurred during the post-medieval period. An earlier archaeological origin for some of these mounds was also considered. Geophysical surveys revealed several subsurface features, including a possible ditch in rough alignment with the entrances of the Bull Ring henge. Further investigations have been recommended.
