Archaeological watching brief reveals five burials at a regeneration project site, indicating historical significance.
Following the discovery of human remains during demolition and construction groundworks an archaeological watching brief was carried out on a small area of the site, to determine if undisturbed burials survived. The vast majority of the watching brief area had been disturbed by large concrete pier bases. However, three truncated graves were excavated in one small area between the bases. These contained five coffined burials, consisting of three adults and two subadults. All of the adults were classed as probable female. Natural brickearth was found, truncated from above, at 13.8m OD.
