This comparative review examines converter topologies, modelling techniques, and control strategies for efficient electric vehicle applications, indicating future advancements.
DC–DC converters play a crucial role in electric vehicle (EV) applications for efficient powerconversion. However, conventional boost converters are limited by low voltage gain, highripple, large duty cycle, high voltage stress, and reduced efficiency. In response to thesechallenges, multiphase interleaved boost converters have gained attention as a viable solutionfor high-power step-up applications. This paper presents a review of modified multiphasetopologies incorporating voltage multiplier cells, coupled inductors, and auxiliary circuits toimprove converter performance. In addition, various modelling techniques includingaveraged modelling, state-space averaged modelling, generalized averaging modelling, andsmall-signal modelling are discussed for dynamic analysis and stability evaluation.Furthermore, various controllers such as PI, PID, sliding mode, hysteretic and fuzzy logic arereviewed to enhance regulation and transient performance. This review provides insights intothe selection of suitable topologies and control techniques for EV charging.
