Archaeological evaluation reveals minimal finds in Goudhurst, suggesting limited historical significance.
Three small trial trenches (10.4m, 8m and 2m long) were excavated - trench 1 in an area to be landscaped, with 2 and 3 on the site of a new Performing Arts Centre in an extension to the NW of Kendon House (the main school building). The three trenches were all excavated onto the natural geology (Wadhurst / Wealden Clay). Three modern (probably 19th-century) land drains were found in the two trenches on the extension site: no other archaeological remains of any date were present, and modern pottery sherds were the only artefacts seen. These were not retained, in line with the finds collection policy set out in the approved written scheme of investigation (WSI) for the project. No further archaeological mitigation is proposed during the main construction works.
