Now that I’m a seasoned professional who has had the privilege of serving in various leadership roles and functions, I often find myself reflecting on what it truly means to lead staff members effectively. During the past three decades, I’ve had the opportunity to supervise and collaborate with individuals from three to four different generations, each bringing distinct expectations, motivations, communication styles, cultural perspectives, and relationships. This experience has been both enriching and humbling. Although leadership is often discussed in terms of vision, strategy, and outcomes, the daily reality of leading staff is far more complex and deeply human.
