We describe herein a protocol for a conjugate addition reaction of indolizines and oxindoles with vinyl-substituted azaarenes. Up to seven types of azaarenes could be tolerated by this strategy, such as vinyl-substituted pyridines, quinolines, benzoxazoles, pyrimidines, and pyrazines. A series of indolizine- or oxindole-fused azaarene derivatives were resulted in good yields. This method has advantages such as a broad substrate scope and simple reaction conditions.
