Between 21st and 25th of October 2024, Informative Trenching as part of a Programme of Archaeological Mitigatory Works, was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology at Land north of Kenninghall Road and east of Garlondes, East Harling, Norfolk. The archaeological investigation, which was commissioned by Abel Homes Ltd, was carried out to meet the requirements of a condition that had been attached to planning consent for the residential development of the site. A geophysical survey was initially conducted at the site (Terry and Kozinc 2022), indicating potential ridge and furrow features along with several isolated anomalies. However, the Phase 1 trial trenching programme carried out in 2022 (Dall'Olio) in an area immediately adjacent to the current site revealed only a small number of archaeological features. The present Phase 2 of trial trenching has also indicated that geophysical anomalies are not accompanied by sub-surface 'cut' archaeological features. They had been identified as 'undetermined and weak' in the geophysical survey and the fieldwork confirmed this identification. There were no archaeological or modern features found as part of the current works. Trench 64 of the Phase 1 project which extended into the current redline of the site was also devoid of archaeological features but was used to contribute to the 3.5% sample of the site.
