Hydrocarbons are the organic compounds consisting of hydrogen and carbon. These are environmental destructive as their incomplete combustion contribute to climate change. Unplanned urbanization is causing serious effects on the climate. Hydrocarbons are found in various geological and biological processes as well as agriculture and industrial processes and difficult to manage. This review focuses on the effects of urbanization along with brief impacts of hydrocarbons and their treatment using microorganisms with respect to climate change. Bioremediation targeting on industrial and geological processes will reduce the load of harmful hydrocarbons in the environment and provide a framework for integrating biological treatment into urban climate adaptation strategies.
