This study examines the process through which the book The Reds Take a City (1951) was created, modified, and re-imported into South Korea via East Asia. We attempt to elucidate how knowledge produced in Seoul came to be linked to anti-communist psychological warfare on a regional level. Modified in a unique way of combining the generality of anti-communism and the particularity of one region, The Reds Take a City was translated into many languages. Thus, the knowledge produced in the unique context of the Korean War came to acquire the universality of the global Cold War. Although the book was re-imported into South Korea in the form of a comic, it differed in origin and context from images of communist ‘enemies’ originally produced in South Korea.
