Association between diaphragm thickening fraction and noninvasive ventilation failure in patients with acute respiratory failure in the emergency department
To investigate the relationship between diaphragm thickening fraction and noninvasive ventilation failure in patients with acute respiratory distress.
Prospective design measuring diaphragm thickening fraction after NIV initiation
Patient population with acute respiratory distress
Assessment of NIV failure outcomes
Diaphragm thickening fraction measured 1 hour after NIV initiation was associated with NIV failure
Higher diaphragm thickening fractions correlate with lower NIV failure rates
Findings suggest monitoring diaphragm function could improve patient outcomes
Abstract
In this prospective study, DTF measured 1 h after NIV initiation was independently associated with NIV failure in patients with acute respiratory distress in the ED.
