Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in residential interior design, enabling homeowners to visualize layouts, experiment with styles, and make informed design decisions with greater ease and accuracy. AI-based interior design tools assist users by generating personalized layouts, optimizing space utilization, and providing realistic visual simulations before actual implementation. As residential interior design involves long-term financial and aesthetic commitments, the perceived usefulness of AI tools plays a crucial role in influencing their adoption and effectiveness in supporting user decision-making. This study examines how AI-based interior design tools are perceived by users and how such perceptions vary based on the purpose of use, namely new home interior design and renovation. The study further explores the impact of AI adoption on the effectiveness of interior design decision-making. Using empirical data collected from 80 respondents, the research compares users planning a new home with those undertaking renovation. The findings reveal that users planning a new home perceive AI tools as more useful and effective in decision-making compared to renovation users. This difference highlights the role of design flexibility and reduced constraints in enhancing the value derived from AI-based interior design tools, thereby emphasizing their growing relevance in modern residential planning.
