Analyzes traffic patterns on a major Nigerian expressway, suggesting improvements to ease congestion.
This article reveals the general trend of traffic flow on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in terms of the amount of vehicles that ply this expressway, the days of the week which experience the greatest volume of traffic and the type(s) of vehicles that are most frequently used on this very important trunk road. This paper, attempts to proffer solutions towards resolving problems that have arisen from the increased use of this prime motorway in Nigeria. This would be in the form of the development of alternative routes; expansion of the motorways and integration of modal services with a view to reducing pressure on this vital road through use of other modes of transportation (particularly rail) for the evacuation of bulky goods. Key to the implementation of the points highlighted is enactment and enforcement of laws governing transportation in the country as a whole
