Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a prevalent condition that can significantly affect men's sexual health and quality of life, and for which there are many well‐studied effective treatments. In spite of this, many individuals still seek out alternative therapies. In this review, we focus on summarizing the data that exists for the most common alternative therapies. We focus on over‐the‐counter medications, naturopathic supplements, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, and platelet‐rich plasma, as alternative treatments for ED that have either been shown not to work or have insufficient data to support their inclusion in mainstay treatment. As patients frequently seek out their own care options, it is important for physicians to familiarize themselves with these treatments and be prepared when counseling men seeking out treatments not recommended by Urology guidelines.
