Evaluates technological impacts on tourism engagement in Madhya Pradesh, highlighting economic potential.
The words ‘tour’ and ‘travel’ are commonly used interchangeably. But they have different meanings. India ranks 54th out of 117 countries per the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Development Index 2021. One such Report from 2019 ranked India’s tourism sector's price competitiveness 13th out of 140 countries. The report mentioned that India has a good air transport infrastructure and has acquired the 33rd rank, and its post-infrastructure ranked 28th. Amongst Natural Resources, India surpassed many competitive countries to secure the 14th rank, whereas its cultural resources and business travel secured the 8th rank. No wonder, in the field of tourism, India has been recognised as one of the best destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists. Its receipts from tourism during 2012 took Indian tourism on a higher pedestal to rank 16th in the world and 7th among Asian and Pacific countries, as per the World Tourism Organisation. Tourism in India includes Heritage/Historical, Nature and Wildlife Sanctuaries, Rural, Cultural, Adventure, Medical, Business, and Sports. The government has made great efforts to enhance tourism in India by improving its various tourist destinations. It also ensures the expansion and popularity of tourism products, directly enhancing employment opportunities and raising economic growth. The government has provided first-hand information about various tourist destinations, modes available for travel, and comfortable accommodation as per the budget through its multiple tools of tourism technology, for example. Websites, Digital advertisements, Vloggers, Bloggers, Influencers, Videos, Images, and Social - Media like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc., for both domestic and foreign tourists. Yet a large part of the population in India is out of the digital domain and does not become a part of the core list of tourists.
