Why the study?
Does the CHA2DS2-VASc score perform better than the CHADS2 score in predicting ischemic stroke and mortality in Korean patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation not receiving oral anticoagulants?
Does the CHA2DS2-VASc score perform better than the CHADS2 score in predicting ischemic stroke and mortality in Korean patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation not receiving oral anticoagulants?
The CHA2DS2-VASc score is superior to the CHADS2 score for identifying truly low-risk Korean patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, aiding in individualized stroke risk prediction.
May aid low-risk stratification in Korean nonvalvular AF; extends validation but leaves open guideline adoption.
Korean NVAF patients had high risk of stroke and mortality, and had multiple comorbidities. While both CHADS₂and CHA₂DS₂-VASc schema had good performance in risk prediction, CHA₂DS₂-VASc score was superior in identifying truly low-risk patients. Given that Asian ethnicity is associated with bleeding events, individualized accurate risk prediction is necessary to improve patient outcomes.
