Laboratory analysis demonstrates improved conversion performance of semi-fluidized bed reactor over traditional reactors, indicating its potential for rapid reactions.
Semi-fluidized beds are often the choice, when the process fluid passes through a fluidized bed followed by a packed bed system. The present investigation is focused on the conversion capability of a liquid phase semi-fluidized bed reactor (SFBR). A glass tube of 25.4 mm ID and 250 mm length has been taken with coal particles (3.085 mm average size) for SFBR fabrication. Saponification reaction was being carried out for the performance evaluation of SFBR. The comparative analysis of SFBR with its equivalent fluidized bed reactor (FBR), packed bed reactor (PBR), and tubular reactor (TR) have been studied. The performance of SFBR has been found with better conversion over TR, PBR, and FBR at high flow rate of reactants. Thus, emphasizing the better option is SFBR over other reactors in case of rapid spontaneous reactions in the present range of investigation.
