Analytical method predicts water surface displacement in submarine landslides, suggesting improvements in disaster prevention strategies.
The accurate prediction of water surface displacement caused by submarine landslides is essential for effective coastal disaster prevention. This study presents a simplified analytical method for calculating water surface displacement resulting from submarine landslides, offering an alternative to complex existing approaches. Utilizing linear wave theory, the initial surface displacement for a scenario in which a rectangular block on the seafloor moves at a constant velocity is predicted. This method enhances computational efficiency compared to traditional approaches, allowing for rapid predictions. Furthermore, the proposed approach can be applied to various scenarios by considering factors such as water depth, block velocity, and acceleration.
