The rapid transition toward sustainable transportation has positioned electric vehicles (EVs) as a key solution to address environmental degradation, rising fuel costs, and energy security concerns. This study investigates customer perception and adoption behaviour of electric vehicles with specific reference to Coimbatore District, an emerging urban region with growing economic and technological development. The primary objective of the research is to analyse the level of awareness, identify the key factors influencing adoption, and examine the challenges faced by consumers in adopting EVs. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from 120 respondents using a structured questionnaire, while secondary data were sourced from journals, government reports, and industry publications. Statistical tools such as percentage analysis, weighted mean score, and correlation analysis were employed to interpret the data.The study concludes that while the foundation for EV adoption is steadily strengthening, a comprehensive approach involving policy support, technological advancement, infrastructure development, and behavioural change is essential to accelerate the transition. The research provides valuable insights for policymakers, manufacturers, and marketers to design targeted strategies for promoting EV adoption in emerging urban markets. Overall, the study contributes to the growing body of literature on sustainable mobility by offering a localized perspective on consumer behaviour and adoption dynamics.
