Compares diode laser and traditional scalpel techniques for treating gingival enlargement post-orthodontics, indicating effective management options.
Gingival enlargement and excessive gingival display have been a common problem postorthodontic therapy. The primary cause of this issue is the susceptibility of gingival tissues to inflammation, which results from inadequate plaque control and leads to both gingival enlargement and an unesthetic appearance. Various methods have been used over the years for better and proper plaque control. One such method is gingivectomy. This procedure removes the periodontal pocket and brings the marginal gingiva into a more favorable position for plaque control to be achieved by the patient and have a more esthetic appearance. Various methods have been used to perform gingivectomy as a management of chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement. In this case report, the gingivectomy procedure is done using a diode LASER and conventional scalpel technique to compare the efficacy of two modalities.
