Review article highlights recent developments in network polymer synthesis and applications, indicating significant material innovations.
In this review article, the recent progress in the synthesis and application of network polymers is described. The synthesis of network polymers is inextricably linked with material design for the control of physical and mechanical properties. In this article, therefore, we focused on the following topics; the classification of network polymers, the synthesis and properties of thermosetting resins including epoxy resins, phenolic resins, benzoxazine resins, cyanate resins, and maleimide resins, the toughening of network polymers using reversible networks and physical cross-linking, polymer blending, spatial entanglement, and co-continuous network polymer design, concept and application of dynamic covalent bond chemistry, and the highperformance network polymers, e.g. semiconductor encapsulation, 5G/6G compatible materials, thermal and photo-responsive reversible adhesives, on-demand debonding adhesion systems, self-healing/shape-memory elastomers, porous polymer materials and dissimilar materials bonding, and functional polymer gels.
