This book examines the influence of small-press publishers on textual meanings, suggesting a shift in literary studies.
This book offers a pleasingly versatile framework for understanding small-press publishers from the 1890s to the present. Saper assembles a carefully selected array of anglophone literary-artisanal figures, casting them as ‘auteur-publishers’, whose craft and conception actively shape and extend textual meanings. His book speaks to recent scholarship across book history and literary studies, including the essays collected in The Contemporary Small Press: Making Publishing Visible (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020), which Saper does not cite but which nevertheless attests to the timeliness of his intervention.
