DTDerya TopdağBandırma Onyedi Eylül University

Key Points

  • To analyze how sociopolitical factors like perceived corruption and security influence life satisfaction and happiness in Türkiye.
  • Utilized data from the World Values Survey (WVS)
  • Applied a Bayesian ordered logit regression model for analysis
  • Conducted a sensitivity study with alternative prior distribution to ensure robustness
  • A sense of belonging significantly increases subjective well-being indicators (p<0.05).
  • Perceived security has a significant positive effect on happiness metrics (p<0.05).
  • Perceived corruption does not significantly affect life satisfaction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the influence of sociopolitical factors, including perceived corruption, security, and a sense of belonging, on life satisfaction and happiness in Türkiye, utilising data from the World Values Survey (WVS). A Bayesian ordered logit regression model is employed to analyse the data. The findings reveal that both a sense of belonging and perceived security have a significant, positive effect on indicators of subjective well-being, whereas perceived corruption does not. A sensitivity study with an alternative prior distribution demonstrates that the results are robust. The study provides policymakers with evidence-based insights on enhancing well-being through sociopolitical interventions.
