Newly discovered rock paintings reveal unique artistic motifs in the Kurdistan Region, suggesting cultural connections.
The rock paintings at Bilêcan published here for the first time are located in the Xabur Valley, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. They belong to a type of rock art hitherto unknown in the Western Zagros. The ten recorded images depict human, animal, and geometric motifs closely linked to the site’s natural environment and to the ideas of their producers. Stylistic similarities between these paintings and others from Southwest Turkey are perceptible.
