This discovery reveals historical connections between Arabia and Babylonia in the first millennium BC, indicating local cultural influences.
A recently discovered relief and cuneiform inscription at al-Ḥāʾiṭ sheds new light on the history of Arabia and Babylonia in the first millennium BC. The text, written in the name of the Late Babylonian king Nabonidus (556–539 BC), allows the identification of al-Ḥāʾiṭ with ancient Padakku. The presence of local elements in the text and imagery imply the king’s respect towards local deities.
