50m x 50m open excavation around a middle Bronze Age roundhouse discovered during evaluation works on the site, consisting of 7no post holes. No further prehistoric activity was evident in the area, with post-medieval field boundaries, furrows and modern activity recorded. The excavation area around the Middle to Late Bronze Age roundhouse did not expose any further ancillary prehistoric activity associated with the structure. This supports the initial assessment within the evaluation report that the roundhouse was an isolated and unenclosed domestic structure, with comparable features recorded in the wider vicinity, such as at Alrewas Quarry, 16 miles north-west of the current Site. The identification of the roundhouse at Beaconside corresponds with Middle - Late Bronze Age settlement patterns which are often characterised by dispersed, sporadic and largely isolated unenclosed farmsteads. The excavation area revealed no other features of prehistoric provenance, only uncovering a continuation of a post-medieval boundary ditch, previously observed during the evaluation phase of works, and a series of coaxially aligned plough-scars. 19th Century residual material was identified on the surface of the ditch and the features' location corresponded with a boundary ditch as marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map published during the late 19th century.
