The Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine was founded in 1919 with Sir William Osler as its first President. The Fellowship had a pioneering role in coordinating and providing an impetus to the development of postgraduate medical education in the United Kingdom. With the establishment of other organizations, such as the British Postgraduate Medical Federation, postgraduate centres throughout the country, and the postgraduate activities of the Royal Colleges and Faculties, its role changed. The Fellowship continues to make important contributions to postgraduate medical education through its two journals (Postgraduate Medical Journal and Health Policy and Technology), by organizing scientific and health policy conferences, its support for other medical societies, and its award of research prizes. The Centenary of the foundation of the Postgraduate Medical Journal was celebrated on 2 December 2025 with a Conference at the Royal Society of Medicine, London. In addition to two introductory presentations on the history of the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine and Postgraduate Medical Journal, eight experts provided updates on the management of various medical emergencies. The Abstracts of these presentations are published in this Supplement to the Journal.
