Women’s empowerment is widely recognized as a fundamental condition for achieving sustainable development. It not only improves the status of women but also contributes to social justice, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development. Since women constitute nearly half of the population, their active participation in education, employment, decision-making, and community development is essential for balanced and sustainable progress. However, women continue to face several challenges such as gender discrimination, unequal access to resources, limited educational opportunities, unpaid care work, and low representation in leadership roles. The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between women’s empowerment, education, and sustainable development in India. The study is based on secondary data and follows a descriptive and analytical approach. It explores conceptual dimensions, reviews existing literature, and identifies major challenges and opportunities related to women’s empowerment. The findings of the study reveal that education plays a transformative role in empowering women by enhancing their awareness, confidence, skills, and participation in socio-economic and political spheres. It also contributes to better health outcomes, increased employability, and improved decision-making capacity. The study concludes that sustainable development cannot be achieved without empowering women through equal access to education, employment, resources, and decision-making structures. Thus, gender equality must be recognized as a foundational pillar of sustainable development.
