"President Eisenhower's People to People Program: Humanitarian Service, Lifelong Friendship, Environmental Peace, and Poetic Remembrance", In: "Evolutionary Progress in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics", 8(5B), Lenox Institute Press, Massachusetts, USA. pp. 28. ABSTRACT: This article commemorates the friendship and professional collaboration between Dr. Constantine Yapijakis and Dr. Lawrence K. Wang through the lens of Dwight D. Eisenhower's People to People Program, founded in 1956. The program promoted peace through citizen diplomacy, educational exchange, scientific cooperation, and direct human friendship across national boundaries. In 1985, acting as members of the People to People Program, Dr. Wang and Dr. Yapijakis formally facilitated the transfer of United States environmental technologies to the People's Republic of China. The technical knowledge exchanged during this mission was later documented and disseminated through jointly authored chapters in the Handbook of Industrial and Hazardous Wastes Treatment and other scholarly publications. Their shared work demonstrates how engineering service, environmental stewardship, and personal trust can transcend politics and contribute to world peace. As a tribute, this manuscript includes four original memorial poems: "The People-to-People's Bridges of World Peace," "Guarding the Azure Seas, Remembering an Old Friend " , "A Companion Who Carried Books, A Light in the Starry Milky Way" , and the postface poem "People to People.".
