Abstract

Guduchi, also known as Tinospora cordifolia or Amrita, is one of the most acclaimed medicinal plants in Ayurveda due to its potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and Rasayana properties. It is widely used in clinical practice for conditions characterized by immune dysfunction and chronic inflammation, including arthritis, autoimmune disorders, allergies, skin diseases, fever, and metabolic disorders. Modern pharmacological investigations have validated its traditional therapeutic claims and demonstrated that Guduchi exhibits significant anti-inflammatory effects through multiple mechanisms including suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, inhibition of oxidative stress, down-regulation of COX-2 and iNOS pathways, and stabilization of immune cell balance. This article discusses the pharmacological basis, mechanisms of action, research findings, and clinical relevance of Guduchi in the management of inflammation.
