ABSTRACT The electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate to ammonia has emerged as a promising sustainable approach for ammonia synthesis. In this work, a FeO/Cu foam (FeO/CFs) catalyst was constructed through a spray coating method on Cu foam substrates, with high catalytic activity toward the nitrate reduction reaction (NO 3 RR) The results demonstrate that the FeO/CFs catalyst achieves an ammonia yield rate of 3.64 ± 0.29 mmol h −1 cm −2 , along with a high Faradaic efficiency of 88% ± 0.5% at a potential of −0.8 V RHE . Further mechanistic investigations reveal that the synergistic effect between Cu and FeO components plays a pivotal role in boosting the catalytic performance.
