The notion of active scholarship dovetails with critical consumption of information at a time when long-held assumptions about thinking and seeing are being challenged – or perceived as such – by corporate entities whose influence crosses numerous boundaries due to the very tangible, inter-related elements of money and power. The authors utilize the ‘looking glass’ metaphor to propose examining the relationship between current events and Disney media that reflect past, present and perhaps timeless human values and priorities, situating the current issue in larger conversations around Disney, media control and censorship.
