Stimulating the economic momentum of silver hair is a strategic fulcrum to cope with the transformation of population structure and cultivate new momentum of economic growth. Based on the panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2013 to 2024, this paper empirically examines the impact of silver economy on regional economic resilience and its internal mechanism. The study found that: First, the silver-haired economy has a significant effect on regional economic resilience, and this conclusion remains valid under a series of robustness tests. Secondly, the mechanism analysis shows that the silver-haired economy enhances regional economic resilience mainly through three paths: reshaping population structure, optimizing factor allocation and promoting industrial structure upgrading. Third, heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect is more obvious in the south, coastal and central core provinces. The quasi-natural experiment based on the 'pilot reform of home and community care services' further provides causal evidence. This study not only deepens the theoretical understanding of the impact of the silver-haired economy, but also provides important policy implications for improving the ability of regional economic systems to cope with shocks and transformation through the development of the silver-haired economy.
