Women of reproductive age are particularly advised to receive consecutive doses of tetanus toxoid (TT) vaccination to ensure long-term protection. Despite the availability of vaccines, studies indicate suboptimal awareness and uptake among young women, with many exhibiting misconceptions regarding the number of doses required and the populations for whom the vaccine is indicated. Research from Nigeria, Egypt, and Pakistan highlights varying levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices, revealing that while some women recognize TT vaccination as protective, significant gaps persist, including the belief that the vaccine is only necessary for pregnant women or that a single dose provides lifelong immunity. These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted health education programs and advocacy to improve perception, knowledge, and completion of TT vaccination schedules among female undergraduates. Enhancing awareness and correcting misconceptions are critical steps toward reducing the burden of maternal and neonatal tetanus and ensuring adequate immunisation coverage.
