abstract: The reception of proposals for literary allusions in the Book of Aneirin has generally been muted at best. This paper reviews the kinds of proposals made to date and then goes on to suggest that the scholarly approach has been at times too narrow, and that a more broad-minded methodological approach might prove more helpful. Three examples are considered: the first draws attention to a possible biblical parallel to some lines in Y Gododdin ; the second suggests a model in Vergil's Aeneid for the first stanza; and the third draws attention to striking parallels between Peis dinocat and the imagery presented in Roman hunting scenes on objects found in Britain.
