Descriptive survey examines attitudes towards mathematics in 9th-grade Scheduled Caste students, suggesting motivational interventions may be needed.
This study examined the attitudes of 9th-grade Scheduled Caste students towards mathematics in government secondary schools of Lucknow. Using a descriptive survey design, 168 students (The sample included 95 female students and 73 male students) were selected through random sampling of schools and purposive sampling of students. Data were collected via a self-constructed and standardized 25-item attitude scale on a three-point Likert format, covering cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of attitude. Analysis using the Normal Probability Curve revealed that most students showed an average attitude towards mathematics, with fewer showing very high or very low attitudes. The findings highlight the need for engaging teaching strategies, supportive classroom environments, and motivational interventions to foster positive mathematical attitudes among SC students.
