A computational procedure has been used to develop the high-lift system of a medium-sized transport for short field operations. Active Flow Control is employed to enhance high-lift performance in order to meet the requirement for takeoff and landing. Flow control patterns based on constant suction, constant blowing and pulsed actuation have been employed for achieving practical lift levels. The actuation modes have been tested at the NASA Langley Low-Turbulence Pressure Tunnel to assess effectiveness at representative flight scale Reynolds numbers. The experimental data has been subsequently used to validate the computational tool.
