This article is concerned with the rate bumpless transfer control issue for switched linear systems with stability. The rate bumpless transfer performance of switched systems is defined for the first time. By joint-design of a switching logic and a series of dynamic output feedback controllers, a rate bumpless transfer control scheme is offered to address the rate bumpless transfer control issue of the systems with stability. A criterion ensuring both the rate bumpless transfer performance and stability of the systems is formed. As a class of complex nonlinear systems, aero-engine control systems can hardly be described by any accurate mathematical models. Switched linear models are often used to describe aero-engine control systems due to their flexibility and reliability. For aero-engines control systems, bumpless transfer is particularly important and must be guaranteed. Thus, the proposed rate bumpless transfer control strategy is applied to the control design of an aero-engine control system. Finally, an experiment on the aero-engine is implemented, showing the effectiveness and applicability of the theoretical results.
