Explores machine learning use in English teaching, indicating high adoption levels among teachers in Tamilnadu.
In classrooms, ESL teachers use cutting-edge technology. After considerable training, English language teachers deploy modern technologies in their classrooms. Intentionally or unintentionally, English language teachers have been using machine learning technologies towards achieving pedagogical objectives. Therefore, this study aims to probe the application of machine learning technologies in English language teaching at the Schools of Tamilnadu. In 2020-2021, an online survey was used to collect data from 350 English language teachers across Tamilnadu, using convenient sampling in schools. Machine Learning Technologies Utilisation Scale by Teachers (MLTsUS) was used to assess the utilisation of machine learning technologies for teaching English by the teachers. The obtained data were exported as a spreadsheet in Google Forms and scored, using IBM SPSS. Statistical procedures, including mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, and chi-square were used to analyse the data. To test hypotheses, table values were consistently 5% significant. The findings show that the majority of English language teachers, according to this survey, use machine learning techniques in their classrooms. In the application of machine learning technology in English language education, gender, location, degree of instruction, nature of school, board of school, and age do not show statistically significant differences.
