Apple amaranthin-like lectins ( Malus domestica agglutinins; MdAGGs) are soluble proteins whose encoding genes are strongly upregulated by plant resistance inducers, such as acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM), which provides broad-spectrum protection against apple pathogens, suggesting a potential role in plant defense. Here, three transgenic ‘Gala’ lines generated via CRISPR-Cas9-mediated editing of the 17 MdAGG genes are characterized. We report editing rates and RNA-sequencing–based quantification of transcript levels for each edited MdAGG following ASM treatment. Furthermore, the whole transcriptome of each transgenic line was compared to the wild type genotype to identify differentially expressed genes after elicitation. These datasets provide (1) insights into the variation in editing outcomes among MdAGG genes across transgenic lines and (2) a basis for assessing the transcriptomic consequences of editing an entire gene family within a plant genome.
