Essay explores how plagiarism accusations impact faculty integrity and academic value, indicating a troubling trend.
This essay explores how accusations of plagiarism reveal an uncanny law of value in the neoliberal university where faculty research only has the ability to devalue faculty in the academic economy. There is no value in the work of writing a journal article or a book. Instead, such work, through its ability to fall prey to accusations of plagiarism, carries only the threat of loss of integrity, honor, and reputation for the faculty member, risks diminished appreciation for their field of expertise, and fosters distrust in institutions of higher education.
