Shows decreased expressed human milk left behind in NICU, indicating effective feeding management.
Background: Feeding management in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is complex and susceptible to human error. Purpose: The purpose of this project was to decrease the incidence of expressed human milk (EHM) left behind at time of NICU discharge. Methods: The Keriton mobile application was implemented as a feeding management system in a level IV NICU in New York. A pre-/post-quasi experimental design was used for this quality improvement project. Results: There was a relative 89% reduction in occurrence of EHM left behind at time of NICU discharge. Implications for Practice and Research: It is recommended to continue using a feeding management system, such as the Keriton mobile application, to manage EHM at time of NICU discharge.
