Open-source collection analyzes triaxial accelerometer data for gait quality in diverse conditions, highlighting fall risk assessment.
RACING (R-based Attractor Complexity INdex for Gait) is an open-source collection of R scripts that compute linear and nonlinear gait quality metrics from a single triaxial accelerometer attached to the lower back. It implements validated algorithms originally developed in MATLAB for the ACIER study, including local dynamic stability, the attractor complexity index, gait regularity, and movement intensity. These metrics have been validated for characterizing age-related gait changes, with potential applications in fall risk assessment and clinical gait evaluation. RACING provides a modular batch-processing pipeline driven by an Excel-based configuration interface. It enables researchers to analyze accelerometer gait recordings from both laboratory and unsupervised outdoor walking conditions.
