The stability of planar faults on possible slip planes in the DO19 structure is investigated using crystal symmetry considerations and the restoring force calculated for these faults. It is found that the superlattice intrinsic stacking fault on the basal plane and the antiphase boundaries on prismatic {1010} and {1120} planes are always stable, while other planar faults are either unstable or stable for the fault vectors deviated a little from those deduced from purely crystallographic considerations. Using these results, the configuration of superlattice dislocations in the DO19 structure and the slip behaviour of ordered alloys with this structure are discussed.
