Does severe, anaerobic exercise alter conventional and vectorial electrocardiographic items in normal men?
Severe anaerobic exercise induces pronounced ECG changes, particularly in the T vector, which are hypothesized to result from general myocardial hypoxia rather than localized ischemia.
Severe anaerobic exercise ECG changes in healthy men warrant interpretive caution; leaves open validation versus ischemia in clinical cohorts.
In 35 normal men, conventional and vectorial electrocardiographic items were studied after severe, anaerobic exercise over a recovery period of 8 min. The changes, especially of the T vector, are pronounced, but are different from those observed in coronary insufficiency. The hypothesis is advanced that the changes in anaerobic exercise are due to general myocarclial hypoxia, in contrast to the localized ischemia in coronary insufficiency.
