High‐performance dowel‐type joints for timber structures

This paper identifies the fundamental factors that affect the performance of dowel‐type joints between structural timber members. It considers methods that have been used to enhance joint performance and illustrates how these have been brought together in two alternative high‐performance joints. The paper concludes with examples of structures built with one of these alternative joints.
