Objectives The purpose of this survey was to assess the awareness, attitude, and knowledge of Indian dentists regarding forensic odontology (FO), with the aim of understanding their familiarity with this specialised field and its practical applications in forensic investigations. The study also evaluated the attitudes of dentists toward incorporating FO into their clinical practice. Material and Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted among dental practitioners using a self-structured questionnaire validated by five subject experts. The survey consisted of 11 questions designed to assess knowledge, awareness, and attitudes toward FO. A total of 290 dentists were randomly selected and invited to participate through Google Forms, and 201 practitioners completed the questionnaire. Results The findings revealed that among the participants, 115 (57.2%) of dental practitioners were partially interested and 75 (37.3%) were fully interested in gaining adequate preparation for potential involvement in FO, while 5.5% showed no interest. Furthermore, 163 (81.1%) respondents agreed that FO could have been utilised in certain cases, but was not implemented in practice. Conclusion The study shows that most Indian dentists are aware of and interested in FO, but its use in real practice is still limited. Although many recognise its importance in legal investigations, the lack of proper training and limited inclusion in dental education remain key challenges. Increasing awareness, providing practical training, and encouraging collaboration with forensic experts can help dentists play a stronger role in forensic investigations in the future.
