Demonstrates a novel chemosensor's ability to detect Fe³⁺ and Co²⁺ ions, indicating a simple method for monitoring these metals.
This study details the design and synthesis of a Schiff base colorimetric chemosensor derived from the condensation reaction between benzaldehyde and aniline. The resulting imine ligand was evaluated for its metal-ion sensing capabilities in aqueous-organic media. Experimental results demonstrate high selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe³⁺ and Co²⁺ ions, characterized by distinct, observable color changes that allow for "naked-eye" detection without complex instrumentation. This sensor offers a simple, cost-effective, and efficient method for monitoring trace levels of iron and cobalt in environmental and biological samples.
