Characterization of pore space in chalk by multifractal analysis

Scanning electron micrographs of thin sections of chalk samples have been digitized and analysed using multifractal statistics. It is demonstrated that such analysis can be useful for characterizing different geological chalk environments. In particular, it is observed that the multifractal spectrum of pore space is correlated with air permeability values measured from the corresponding core samples.
